Friday Radio's 1st Birthday - The BRISBANE Edition

Happy Friday F.R. Folks,

It's a great edition today. Not only are we continuing our journey throughout Australia with Brisbane today, it is also 1 year ago that F.R. was first started.

But first, the music:

The Boat People - "Awkward Orchid Orchard"
one from the new album 'Chandeliers'

Hungry Kids of Hungary - "set it right"

The Paper and the Plane - "All that i had"

The Veronicas - "Untouched"
loud electro-pop from 2 girls who named their band after an Archie comic character

Powderfinger - "Waiting for the sun"

The Grates - "Milk eyes"

What are your favourites?

The Friday Radio story

Almost a year ago, a lil advertising creative realised that the culture of people forwarding links of videos to great music is happening almost all the time. What this means is that if everyone who loved music and are constantly looking out for great tunes to listen to... can get together and share songs, wouldn't that be lovely?

So she gathered all her friends and started by sending out music links, and her friends replied in kind...
The rest, is the start of a beautiful story.

So why call it Friday Radio?
Well, it started on a Friday. Having new music to listen to at the end of a work week seemed like a nice way to ease into the weekend. Why Radio? Even though it's not a transmission, the nature of the program is having people who are 'tuned in' respond, very much like listeners when they call through, cept we're online.

How many people are subscribed to Friday Radio?
My last count, 76.

How do people get on Friday Radio?
It started with word of mouth... it still very much goes by word of mouth. Only recently has a sign up option been included on the archive page. This means that anyone from anywhere in the world can now join us.
So tell your friends to sign up via www.fridayradio.blogspot.com

How do you come with themes for each week?
F.R. started out without themes. I felt that it gave people more freedom to add whatever songs from any genre they liked. But people started to come up and say that there should be themes so that they could know what they're looking for.
The themes come from everywhere. When i'm stuck for ideas, people have been more than gracious to suggest. I appreciate that a lot, after all, it's a group effort.

Does this mean that you can't post songs if it's not a Friday?
Not at all. Friday's just when i post an edition for the next theme. throughout the week, if you have any songs that are related to the theme of the week... you're more than welcome to add.

How does F.R. work?
Edition gets posted on fridays (like this one). People contribute. Towards the end of the FR week (wed or thur), I manually blog everything on the archive page.

What are the best and worst responses of F.R. so far?
One hit wonder week had 20 responses (according to google groups). The Fired Edition and the Michael Jackson Tribute tied. The worst ones are the holiday ones when everyone is away or at least away from a computer.

Who designed your logo?
The black and white one was done by myself (Ash). The fancy one is done by a bonafide art director and dear friend, Marcus... whom i still owe a lil gift for doing me the favour.

Why do Friday Radio?
Because we all love music. And the sensation of finding something new to listen to and love, isn't that just the best feeling in the world?

To everyone who've contributed, or allowed your email to be added to the group. To you who've come up to me with suggestions and ideas for the collective or for the week's theme. For the compliments or for just saying you enjoyed F.R. ....
Couldn't have happened without you. THANK YOU to each and everyone of you.

Here's to a year more of great tunes.

Cheers!
