Friday Radio 12 September 2006

Warning: infectious music might cause head bopping, shakes of the good kind, humming that leads you to question whether or not you can carry a tune, spontaneous dance moves and induced euphoria that might lead you to say YES to everything including that ridiculous deadline...

Less talk, more music... Here we go:

Femi Kuti - “I wanna be free”
Afrobeats... These guys know how to hold a live show. With scantily clad women and audiences throwing water bottles and plastic chairs...it might hurt, but it’ll probably hurt good.

Mayer Hawthorne - “Just ain’t gonna work out”
Featured a few weeks ago on Gilles Peterson’s show, this new soul brother is set for more great things. Here’s his myspace page (click on the song to listen)

Powderfinger - “sunsets”
Great song, great video with animation that looks very similar to “samurai jack”. Based on an age old Chinese folklore of the king and his ten sons.

Tica - “Don’t cry sista”
A J.J.Cale cover by this jap duo. Chilled yet groovy.

Fred Astaire - “Top hat, white tie and tails”
Taken from the 1935 film “top hat”, this title track is so infectious, you might find yourself humming this one the next time you get dressed.

Quantic - “transatlantic”
It’s all about the beats...

Something corporate - “me and the moon” (acoustic version with Andrew McMahon)
Murder never sounded so good. Great lyrics, if you like this acoustic version, be sure to check out the album version.

Santogold - “The creator”
You’ve probably already heard this one if you watch ‘gossip girl’ (apparently) but this is set to be a club favourite...i can feel it

Got a song you think everyone should listen to? Hit reply all.
Should you think that someone else should be added to the party, reply and let me know.

Until next week!

Speaking of the Santagold track - I can't seem to get this track out of my head this week...

M.I.A - Galang (old but nice) - listen to the Diplo remix which I can't seem to find on Youtube but this should suffice:

Madonna - Give it to me (Fedde Le Grand Remix)

I love Fedde Le Grand - trashy and gay...those blue blue eyes...

Happy Friday everyone...

Hey Eunice,

You’ve got what they call the last song syndrome. The only way to get rid of it is to replace it with a song that sticks more relentlessly than the first.

Cheers;
Minah
